Guess who is back again! La Porte is back on the Main.

La Porte Rouge is making a comeback in March with a brand new name, La Porte, but don’t worry; you’ll still be lavished in red decor. On Wednesday, March 1st, the dance floor will warm up with a Latin night before the official grand re-opening party on Saturday, March 4th.  La Porte has been creating quite the social buzz since December 2022, when they teased their former followers and fans of the club with an image of their infamous red door.

More than just a teaser

Nostalgia was instantly generated, leaving everyone wondering if and when La Porte Rouge would return to the Main.  On January 31st, La Porte announced that they would indeed be reopening under a new name, and the excitement has been building ever since.  La Porte is located at 3519 St. Laurent Boulevard and will be open from 10:00 pm to 3:00 am Wednesday through Sunday.

The history of La Porte Rouge and how we got here

The story behind La Porte Rouge’s evolution began over ten years ago when they first opened their infamous red door on Mont Royal Street in the Plateau.  La Porte Rouge built a solid clientele and became a staple of Montreal nightlife, where you could find great drinks or mingle with a diverse crowd. La Porte Rouge stood tall for ten years until one tragic night in May 2019.

La Porte Rouge in flames

According to a witness, a man was seen running away on foot after allegedly using an accelerant to set La Porte Rouge on fire at around 5 am. Firefighters worked tirelessly for over 4 hours to extinguish the flames, and the fire was brought under control by 9:30 am. Unfortunately, La Porte Rouge suffered devastating damage and was forced to close its doors permanently. To this day, it is unclear how the intruder gained entry or what type of accelerant was used.

A new merger

Not to be outdone, La Porte Rouge merged with another restaurant/bar Jack Rose which was found on Saint Laurent Boulevard, and combined their two names to create Jack Rouge. Jack Rouge became a reality six months after the fire, and new life was breathed into Main. Unfortunately for the owners, a new hurdle presented itself in the form of a virus that would bring life as we knew it to a halt for three years. The Covid-19 pandemic was a challenge for everyone, and the service industry took some serious hits, including the Jack Rouge.

Covid gets in the way.

Jack Rouge is gone, and the future is La Porte. With the imposed Covid-19 rules a thing of the past, Montreal’s nightlife was allowed to re-emerge and thrive. La Porte Rouge has become La Porte again, and they invite you to feel that nostalgia, but come celebrate with them and make new memories to hold on to.

Two big parties to kick things off.

On Wednesday, March 1st, La Porte will host its first Latin Night of 2023, featuring not just one DJ but three. DJ Peruleno, Flacco Remixx, and DJ Dary will be responsible for providing all your favorite Latin hits and beats to get your hips shaking and dancing all night long.

The grand reopening will take place on Saturday, March 4, and everyone is invited to join the fun and celebrate the return of one of Montreal’s favorite nightspots.  You will finally be able to see the new renovations that will allow them to increase their capacity and have a round bar as a central fixture in the middle of the club.

After the grand opening, La Porte will be open five nights a week with the following themes.

Wednesday: Latino Night

Thursday: Afro-Beat Night

Friday and Saturday: Top 40 Night

Sunday: Latino Night
