Restaurant of the Week: Heni
Heni, founded in 2015 by Chef Henrietta Lemoine, is a celebrated restaurant in Montreal known for blending traditional French culinary techniques with modern international flavors. Initially a tiny bistro, Heni quickly gained a reputation for its exceptional food and inviting atmosphere, becoming a top dining destination for both locals and tourists.
Location
Situated at 4567 St-Denis Street in the Plateau-Mont-Royal district, Heni is nestled among eclectic boutiques, art galleries, and cafes. Its central location offers easy access to public transportation and ample parking, making it a convenient spot for a night out.
The Menu
At Heni, the menu reflects Chef Henrietta’s culinary journey, showcasing seasonal, locally sourced ingredients crafted into visually stunning and flavorful dishes. Starters include the decadent Foie Gras Torchon, served with house-made brioche and a tangy fig jam, offering a rich and sweet balance. Freshly shucked Oysters on the half-shell are presented with a zesty mignonette sauce and a hint of lemon. At the same time, the Beet Carpaccio delights vegetarians with thinly sliced beets, goat cheese, arugula, and a balsamic reduction.
Heni offers a classic Duck Confit for the main courses, featuring a slow-cooked duck leg with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed green beans, providing tender meat with a crispy skin. The Seared Scallops stand out, paired with cauliflower puree, roasted Brussels sprouts, and a saffron-infused beurre blanc, creating a luxurious and flavorful dish. Another favorite is the Mushroom Risotto, a creamy blend of wild mushrooms, truffle oil, and Parmesan cheese, rich in umami flavors.
Desserts at Heni are not to be missed. The Lemon Tart, with its buttery crust, whipped cream, and candied lemon zest, offers a refreshing and tangy end to the meal. For chocolate lovers, the molten Chocolate Fondant served with vanilla bean ice cream and a raspberry coulis, strikes a perfect balance between rich chocolate and tart berries. Finally, the Crème Brûlée features a classic vanilla custard topped with a layer of caramelized sugar, providing a delightful contrast of textures.
