Last year, the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities made it clear that pride is inextinguishable, even in challenging times. Fierté Montréal returns this year with a powerful 17th edition that aims to meet the aspirations of the communities. Spreading Out All Over the City

From the Olympic Park’s Esplanade to the vibrant Village and various iconic venues like Jardins Gamelin, Montréal Casino, Le National, Société des arts technologiques (SAT), and Club Soda, Fierté Montréal will take over the city from August 3 to 13. In addition to the renowned Pride Parade along Boulevard René-Lévesque, the festival brings back two Community Days, creating a hub of celebration and engagement on Sainte-Catherine Street East in the heart of the Village.

Diversity at the Forefront

Prepare to be amazed by the talent and diversity on display at Fierté Montréal. With fifteen major free shows featuring over 150 emerging artists from the sexual and gender diversity community, this festival is the largest 2SLGBTQIA+ gathering in the Francophonie. The programming director, Chris Ngabonziza, has curated a festival that celebrates local artists and showcases talent from around the world, deliberately emphasizing emerging artists and artists of color. Fierté Montréal welcomes allies to join the party and experience the magic of inclusion and diversity.

Kicking Off the 2023 Edition on August 3

The 17th edition of Fierté Montréal Festival kicks off on August 3 at Jardins Gamelin. The opening ceremony will feature Indigenous artists and a free dance party collaborating with the Glitterbomb collective. The evening will continue with a hilarious comedy show, “Me joke-tu?” hosted by Acadian drag artists Sami Landri and Chiquita Mére, showcasing the talent of local queer comedians. A Festive First Weekend

The first weekend of Fierté Montréal is packed with diverse and exciting events. On Friday, August 4, Jardins Gamelin will host the XoXo concert, featuring a range of musical styles from pop to rock and R&B. Simultaneously, Barbada and friends will be lighting up the Pride Party at Montréal Casino. The night continues with special Fierté Montréal editions of popular parties like Ellelui, Them Fatale, and Pleasuredome, offering unique experiences catered to the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. The weekend will conclude with Blush, an intergenerational queer performance knowledge exchange at Jardins Gamelin.

The Parc Olympique’s Esplanade

On August 9, the festival’s main site, the Olympic Park’s Esplanade, will come alive with ImmiX, a show presented by ICI Musique on the TD Stage. The event will feature renowned artists like Édith Butler, Klô Pelgag, and Joe Bocan, accompanied by Belle et Bum’s legendary house band. On the Loto-Québec Stage, Drag’Opéra will bring together lyrical and drag artists for a mesmerizing performance. The Queer Songbook Orchestra will also enchant the audience with their chamber pop ensemble, joined by invited artists such as Safia Nolin and Martha Wainwright.

International Drag Aristocracy and the FeminiX Show

Prepare to be dazzled on August 10 as the Drag Superstars show takes the stage, featuring worldwide drag royalty hosted by Rita Baga. The TD Stage will witness an incredible lineup of drag artists, including stars from RuPaul’s Drag Race franchises. In addition, the FeminiX show presented by Rogers will celebrate sexually and gender-diverse women through vibrant performances by BLK PRL, JU!CE, Barbara Butch, and Narcisse.

Showcasing 2SLGBTQIA+ Community Organizations

Take advantage of the Community Days on August 11 and 12 on Sainte-Catherine Street East, where you can meet various community organizations, businesses, and sociocultural clubs involved with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. These days aim to highlight these organizations’ vital work and foster community connections. Moreover, Fierté Montréal has funded 40 community projects between May 13 and August 13 to support and promote the work of 2SLGBTQIA+ community organizations.

A Unique Night

Friday, August 11, promises a night to remember. DistinXion, a special show on the TD Stage, will feature artists like Aimé Simone, Nahkane, Mýa, Vivek Shraya, and Idman, showcasing the talent of queer artists from different backgrounds. Xcellence, presented by Ubisoft on the Loto-Québec Stage, will celebrate QTBIPOC communities with renowned DJs from Montréal’s queer nightlife scene. For the first time, Fierté Montréal offers an After-Xcellence night featuring DJ Karaba, Pierre Kwenders, and KidCrayola at the SAT’s Satosphère.

Celebrating Local Talent

On August 12, MajestiX, presented by TD and hosted by drag kings Rock Bière and RV Métal, will feature local drag artists showcasing their talent. In addition, SucceXion, presented by Fugues on the Loto-Québec Stage, will highlight rising stars of the underground queer Montréal music scene, delivering a show that will leave the audience wanting more.

Amplifying the Voices From the 2SLGBTQIA+ Communities

On August 13, the Pride Parade will take to Boulevard René-Lévesque at 1 pm, celebrating the progress made in the rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and advocating for ongoing change. Following the parade, the T-Dance on the TD Stage at the Olympic Park’s Esplanade will keep the energy high with DJ K.nox, DJ T Don, and DJ Kampire. Simultaneously, the Loto-Québec Stage will host Mundo Disko, a fantastic show that grooves dancing enthusiasts. The Closing Show will be a spectacular finale featuring the queer artist RÊVE from Montréal.
